Social Media

Why I took a break from social media

This is not my usual type of post. I decided to take a much needed social media break and it seriously was one of the best decisions I made in a very long time.

I was feeling a lot of pressure to post on instagram every single day and if I didn’t post, it was a huge failure on my part. My days were filled with anxiety on choosing what to post, filtering through hundreds of photos of the same pose or outfit to find that one “instagramworthy” photo. I started to loose touch with reality, I would obsess over tiny details that didn’t matter, and to be honest I didn’t like the person I was becoming. I found myself thinking too much about what to post. I found myself trying to keep up. I found myself getting frustrated. I found myself getting anxious. I found myself wanting everything a certain way. This is when I knew i needed a break and to unplug.

Many would define unplugging as deleting or signing off of all social media applications, turning off notifications, stopping all forms of engagement including liking pics and responding to comments and DM’s. For me personally, I didn’t feel like i needed to go that far. During my break, I didn’t delete or completely stop all social media interactions, but I made it a point to be more aware of my usage.

By unplugging, I was more present, living my life in the moment and focusing on those around me. Don’t get me wrong, social media is a very powerful tool but it can consume you if you allow it to.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if i even wanted to write about this. I don’t need to explain myself to anyone. As much as I love social media, it can be a distortion of reality, self and others. If i learned anything during this break, is that we all need to stop the social comparison and competitive game, conquer FOMO, reconnect with the real world, and take control of our time.

I took this time to remind myself of why I decide to share parts of my life with you all! For me it’s a creative outlet to share and connect with others who have similar passions. I am grateful for each and everyone of you and for all the connections and friends I have made so far. Just like with everything else, I truly believe moderation is key!

So with that said, I will no longer allow social media to consume my life. Its all about finding that right balance and it’s definitely going to be a work in progress for me. Thank you for all your support and encouragement, and for those who reached out to me during my break to make sure everything was ok. I missed you all so much <3

Ok now on to the fun stuff….. lets talk about this @chicwish dress! Its so hard to find a long sleeve maxi dress these days and this one is perfection! The quality, cut, length and fit are amazing. I love how this dress is super flowy! It has just enough material to give it that full skirt look without looking like the dress is swallowing you. It also comes with an extra piece of fabric that can be worn around the neck or as a head band 🙂 This entire look is linked below via liketoknow.it. Happy Shopping!
